straight from the in-box to your ear
for the electronic musically inclined, i highly recommend you subscribe to the flavorpill crew's excellent email newsletter, earplug. sent every two weeks, it is chockfull of the latest news, reviews, and streams spanning every varietal of electronic and dancefloor-oriented music. their taste is spot-on, thanks to resident techno guru philip sherbourne and friends, making it a must-read for dj's and fans alike.
i'm a big fan of flavorpill and their email newsletters. they've got their finger right on the pulse of what's what in music, local events, politics, literature, fashion, and art. and for all this talk about rss feeds and sticky techniques to get people to a website, nothing beats good ol' email. the whole "push" technology thing perhaps was a fad of the mid-90's (remember pointcast?), but who in their right mind would prefer to go out and seek when you could have it delivered right to your inbox?
the only negative thing about flavorpill's success is the inverse relationship to my ability to win free tickets. used to be i could snag a pair of choice tix just about every week. no point in bothering any more…

I stopped trying to win tix on flavorpill, too. It’s hard to win from being the first to respond–the one time I did win was because I sent in the best description of an embarrassing moment or somesuch.

yeah. i used to win so many tickets that the woman who gave our tickets and i became friends. even tried to meet up last time i was in new york. i also passed on an opportunity which would have been a dream job of sorts, as the marketing manager for flavorpill. would have had to move to new york and scrap the alchemy plans.
