for all you dance-rock-punk-disco-funk-techno fans
some big-time music hitting town soon, hit me up if you want to come with…
friday, sept 15 - soulwax (niteversions)/2manydj's at mezzanine. featuring the same cast of belgian characters, each of the projects offers something fantastic. 2manydj's are the finest in the biz at mashups done the old school way - live in the mix. their frenetic sets chop up every varietal of music known to man. soulwax is their production name/live PA. classics like "ny excuse" and "e talking" build on the dfa/dancepunk genre, incorporating shades of outhud, lcd soundsystem, and tiga. and niteversions is sort of a soulwax project, where they took their album "any minute now" and remixed and reinterpreted it for a live setting. this should be a great time and a big night out.
heard that 2manydj's killed it at the fuji rock festival this year. get tickets here…

wed, sept 20 - dfa dj's james murphy vs. the juan maclean at mezzanine. another heavyweight bout. can't remember the last time dfa head james murphy dj'd in town, though you may have caught him in his other guise as lcd soundsystem's lead. and the juan maclean, along with lcd soundsystem (and ok, the rapture too. and yes, more recently, hot chip), are the driving forces behind dfa's rise to greatness. a nice followup show to the soulwax/2manydj's gig. while these two are better producers than dj's, the records they drop are always top-notch. don't believe murphy when he claims he's "losing (his) edge." this is also an xlr8r anniversary party, so you won't want to miss it. $10!
plus:
sat, sept 16 - alex smoke, kontrol at rx gallery. along with dirtybird's justin martin, this will be a big one for the monthly crew. $5 at the door.
