how i spent my weekend

in order…

  1. amy winehouse - the two songs i saw were fab. packed.  backing her were the dap kings a la sharon jones.
  2. rufus wainwright - thanks for the vip passes!
  3. jesus and mary chain - just like honey.  one of my fave sets.
  4. busdriver - crazy psych electro rap.  kinda hit or miss.
  5. interpol - from the beer garden they sounded great.
  6. sonic youth - not as tight as i expect of them.
  7. bjork - amazing.  set of the festival.
  8. hot chip - friggin' only saw two songs thanks to the tightass security who jacked me.  but of course they rocked.
  9. peter bjorn & john - not sure if i buy into the hype yet.
  10. mstrkrft - dig their stuff, but it's hard to get that heavy that early in 100 degree weather.
  11. decemberists - from the beer garden.  all about the audience participation.
  12. arcade fire - can't miss set.  sound was a little off, but you can't help but love them.
  13. blonde redhead - half their songs were amazing, the other half forgettable.  but she's hot.
  14. lcd soundsystem - the other set of the fest.  flat out killed it.
  15. the rapture - the few songs i saw were good, but we were tired.
  16. cornelius - caught a couple interesting songs, heidi loved him.
  17. soulwax - despite it being the afternoon, soulwax went off as they always do.
  18. css - who can resist the charms of css?  foxgluv is such a doll.
  19. konono no. 1 - wanted to get a taste of them live and they were what you'd expect.
  20. klaxons - hmm, i'm still not sold.
  21. jose gonzales - if it wasn't competing with high energy in every direction, i woulda loved this.  he was great.
  22. crowded house - from the vip section, caught a third of their set.  nothing much to report, though paris hilton walked right by me.
  23. air - disappointment of the night.  came on late, then got drowned out by manu chao, who was going off on the main stage.
  24. ratatat - great set.  love when an instrumental band can captivate.
  25. rage against the machine - decided i should try and catch some of them, just so i could tell my grandkids i did.  so i watched from the protective confines of the vip area.  again, what you'd expect. 70,000 people loved 'em though.
  26. spank rock - fab way to end the night, they rocked the small gobi tent.  these guys know how to get the party jumping.

that was that.  all in all, another great coachella, it did not disappoint.  and so, on this concluding note, a video from coachella of my re-found darling bjork.  this is an amazing rendition of "hyperballad" that truly lives up to its title, with a drum and bass/techno freakout halfway through.  friggin' genius.
